Last Time In NYC - 07/03/10 (Image via NYCDreamin Archives)

As I mentioned a week or so ago, The Gorgeous One and I are off to honeymoon/vacation in New York City. We leave later today and should arrive back home two weeks from today. I've set some stuff up to publish while we're gone - lots going on - so TATSOL will not become a dead-zone for the duration of our absence. Unfortunately, I've recently had to set my comments feature here to "moderated" due to Spamming issues - so if you do comment on anything in the next two weeks, it most likely won't appear here until I get back. Likewise, any emails to us here at TATSOL duing the next two weeks will remain unanswered until mid-July due to the fact that we'll hardly see a computer until then. Should be a nice, well needed break from it all.

Happy 4th of July to you all...

06/02/12 - The Wedding Photos

As I mentioned HERE a few weeks ago, The Gorgeous One and I were married in a beautiful ceremony, surrounded by over 100 friends and family members on Saturday, June 2nd, 2012 at the Medina Entertainment Center in Medina, MN. As promised, here are a few photos we'd like to share with you...

One week from today we leave for our honeymoon/vacation in (where else?) New York City. Plans include (but are not limited to) lots of exploration of the city on foot, eating too much, staying out too late, catching music and a movie in Tompkins Square Park, a visit to the World Trade Center site and 9/11 Memorial, watching the spectacular July 4th Macy's firworks display on the Hudson River, a day at the ocean at Jones Beach on Long Island, a trip to the soon-to-be-razed 5Pointz Aerosol Art Center in Long Island City - and - for our final night in the city - an evening of getting our New York Groove on with Ace Frehley at the Best Buy Theater in Times Square on July 11th!

Aerosmith along with special guests Cheap Trick kicked off their 2012 "Global Warming Tour" at the Target Center in Minneapolis last night to an enthusiastic sold-out crowd of around 14,000. This is the first time Aerosmith has played a show in the U.S. in nearly 3 years and marks the bands first show in Minneapolis since 2006.
This was the view from section 201 as the Target Center began to fill up as we waited for the show to get under way.

06/16/12 Aerosmith/Cheap Trick Stage @ Target Center, Mpls, MN02

At 8:00pm sharp, the house lights went down and the pride of Rockford, IL, Cheap Trick, took the stage while people continued to stream in.

Cheap Trick Setlist:
Intro-Hello There
California Man
Ain't That A Shame
Never Had A Lot To Lose
Sick Man Of Europe
Baby Love To Rock
Need Your Love
I Know What I Want
The Flame
I Want You To Want Me
Dream Police-Goodnight

Maybe not the most energetic set by Cheap Trick I've ever seen, but still plenty entertaining all the same and definatley worth the price of admission alone from my point of view. Aerosmith was just a bonus.
After a somewhat lengthy set change, which is to be expected on the opening night of any given arena tour, Aerosmith made their way to the stage amidst thunderous applause from the sold out Minneapolis crowd. The band came out strong right away but it took the sound guys a few songs to dial in a good mix between the vocals and the guitars. They got it right a few songs in and after that, the Boston boys sounded pretty damn good for the rest of the night. The show was an enjoyable mix of classic 70's era obscura and 80's/90's pop-chart toppers with a new tune, "Oh Yeah" (from the bands forthcoming CD "Music From Another Dimension") thrown in for good measure.

Aerosmith Setlist:
Intro-Draw The Line
Love In A Elevator
Oh Yeah
Walkin' The Dog
Livin' On The Edge
Rag Doll
Home Sweet Home
S.O.S. (Too Bad)
What It Takes
Last Child
I Don't Want To Miss A Thing
Mama Kin
Sweet Emotion
Walk This Way
Dream On
Train Kept A Rollin'

UPDATE: 06/20/12
Well, this really sucks! Seems Aerosmith's record label (Columbia/Sony) has been trolling Youtube and my videos and others from the show have all been disabled and removed from Youtube due to "copyright infringement" claims. Because, you know, I was making so much money on 'em and everything. I kinda looked at it as free promotion for the tour - but whatever. Soooo, I've removed them from the post here as well. Hope you got a chance to watch 'em while they were up. So if you get the chance, go out and see the boys from Boston this summer - take your camera and film the show - and then burn DVD's for your friends. Just don't post 'em on Youtube. Columbia/Sony is watching. Now back to the original post:

The reviews, so far, have been kind:

*Mineapolis Star Tribune: "Tyler, Aerosmith Back In The Saddle"
*St. Paul Pioneer Press: "Aerosmith Show No Signs Of Slowing Down..."
*Rolling "Aerosmith Kick Off Global Warming Tour In Mpls."

After several days of pre-production/rehearsal and a sold out opening night in Minneapolis, the tour now heads east, stopping next in Cleveland, OH on Tuesday, June 19th.

The show was typically ass kicking - see for yourself - we go the complete show for you right here!
As for the Gorgeous One and I, we're off to see Aerosmith/Cheap Trick in Minneapolis.
More on that tomorrow...

IHeartRadio's "CBGB Radio" Down...Again.

CBGB Radio

Not sure when it happened, but the "CBGB Radio" channel at, which we've proudly and conveniently featured on our front page here for most of the past few years seems to be "off" the air again. In recent days when trying to click on the station for a listen all you get is some static and a "Taylor Swift"(!) graphic. So if you're wondering why the radio player is not over there on the right as usual anymore - now you know. Guess you'll have to get your "Birthplace of Punk" audio fix someplace else for the time being. This depressing development comes just in time for the upcoming CBGB Festival, taking place in New York City July 5th - 8th.

Our New Neighbors - June 2012 Edition

06-10-12 Baby Birds, Chaska, MN02
(Image via NYCDreamin Archives)

These seemingly always hungry and noisy young birds hatched a while back and have been squeaking and peeping up a storm and generally making themselves noticed for the past few days. There are five of the youngsters all crammed into their small nest tucked up into the canopy that covers the entry way to the south side of our apartment building. I'm guessing that just about any day now they'll be ready to try out their wings and fly off out of here in search of food and less cramped, less crap-covered living quarters.

06/09/12 A Few Scenes From The 8th Annual Famous Dave's BBQ-Blues Fest @ Downtown Minneapolis, MN

Taking full advantage of the absoluetly beautiful and cloudless 90-degree day, the Gorgeous One and I made an early afternoon trip into Minneapolis to enjoy some Famous Daves BBQ and to check out a couple hours of Blues performances at the 8th annual Famous Dave's BBQ-Blues Fest.

This year the festival was uprooted from the relative comfort of the landscape-terraced and somewhat shady Peavy Plaza, which is undergoing some renovations this summer. The new location?  A flat, sun-drenched parking lot located on Nicollet Avenue between 3rd and 4th Streets where the old Minneapolis Rib-Fest used to be held before it was moved off to Harriet Island in St. Paul and consequently died off a few years later. We could hear the music from a few blocks away as we walked over to Nicollet Avenue. This was the scene looking to the south-west when we arrived just after 1:30pm.

The grills were already fired up and smokin' up the area with that most pleasant of summer smells...BBQ! A fleet of Famous Daves vehicles from around the Twin Cities metro area continued to pull in and drop off even more food for the event, which will run through around 11:00pm tonight.

The Gorgeous One ordered up a fresh-squeezed ice cold lemonade and then we stepped over to the BBQ booth and placed our orders. She had the 4-bone platter of ribs and a cob of grilled corn. I settled on a pulled pork sandwhich drenched in Famous Dave's award winning Devil's Spit and Georgia Mustard sauces with a side of beans to finish it off. The food, delicious as it was, was gone so fast we didn't even get a chance to take a photo!

06-09-12 Famous Daves BBQ-Blues Fest @ Minneapolis, MN(09)

Quite a crowd was already assembled in the south-west corner of the parking lot in front of the two stages set up sid-by-side for the days musical performers.

When we arrived, Sena Ehrhardt and her band (photo below) were on the main stage, belting out some smooth and funky sounding blues standards. They sounded pretty good and repeatedly and enthusiastically thanked the crowd for coming out early to catch their set.

06-09-12 Famous Daves BBQ-Blues Fest @ Minneapolis, MN(08)

We also caught the short 2:30pm set by the Cole Allen Band. Just as we were leaving around 3:00pm, the Johnny Rawls Band took the main stage.

During all this, as we finished off our meal, an ambulance with lights a-flashing and sirens a-wailing, pulled into the east side of the lot right near the bank of Biff's porta-johns that were set up on site. Seems someone was having some kind of medical difficulty. I speculated that maybe they were overcome by the undescribably noxious fumes coming from the porta-johns.

After the cops and paramedics placed the victim (turns out it was a lady) onto a stretcher and then into the back of the ambulance, an announcement was made from the stage that she had been overcome by dehydration and slight heat exhaustion. Everyone was encouraged to "please stay hydrated" due to the extreme heat. With that bit of advice, the Gorgeous One and I polished off the rest of her now piss-warm lemonade and got up to get a re-fill.

A few minutes after the ambulance left the parking lot and the music continued on, and as we began to contemplate heading for home, a Biff's truck pulled up. This rather large proportioned, obviously hard working dude stepped out of the cab of the truck and then began the "someone's gotta do it" job of visually inspecting each of the the porta-potties. After he pulled the coiled hose attatched to the truck's large sewage tank off it's cradle, this poor fellow stepped back in to each of the "full" toilets and quickly suctioned out the contents. As fast as he emptied each one it seemed someone stepped up to begin the process of filling it with digested BBQ and beer all over again. I told the Gorgeous One I hoped the poor guy made some good money today.

We had no real intention of spending the entire day at the Dave's Fest this year, in fact going at all was kind of a last minute idea. So, just after 3:00pm, with our BBQ-Blues jones satiated - and our medical emergency/scatologically voyeuristic curiosities satisfied - we decided it was time to g.t.f.o. of the sun and head off for home.

Maybe next year we'll plan to stay a bit longer - and hopefully they move the whole thing back to Peavy Paza. Yeah, that would be nice I think.

06/07/12 RIP Bob Welch - Guitarist

(Image via

Word came late today that 66 year-old former Fleetwood Mac guitarist and successful solo artist Bob Welch was found dead in his Nashville, TN home earlier today, the apparent victim of a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the chest. Nashville Police spokesman Don Aaron stated that Welch, who had recently been experiencing some health related issues, was found by his wife and that the guitarist had indeed left a suicide note that was also found at the scene.
