2 years ago tonight I was freezing my ass off in Milwaukee, WI. waiting to see Ace Frehley. It was in the single digits below zero as we drove from Minneapolis all the way to Milwaukee to see the Space Man. The tour dates had been announced about a month previous and there was no Minneapolis show on the itinerary so we HAD to go. We HAD TO!! So, early on the morning of the 8th, off we went, freezing all the way. Of course the show was well worth the long drive through the cold weather. It was the first time I'd seen Ace solo since October 1994 and he was in fine form - delivering a blistering and deafening performance with his newly assembled band.
As soon as the show was over, "337" and I piled back into the freezing car - got it warmed up for a few minutes and headed back for Minneapolis. By the time we got home we had been up and on the move for just over 24 hours and we were both exhausted - and partially deaf. Have you ever been to a show where it was so loud you physically felt like you were being ran over by a truck? This show was like that. But like I said, it was well worth it. As the saying goes, "you gotta suffer for what you seek..."
About a week or ten days after the show in Milwaukee, SURPRISE!! - another round of tour dates was announced. And of course, since we'd been good rock soldiers and driven all the way to Milwauke, NOW Ace announces a show in Minneapolis, exactly 2 months after we'd seen him in Milwaukee. We kind of laughed about it, but I was thrilled to know I'd be seeing him again so soon. And I knew the weather would be much enjoyable in May. And the drive home after the show would only take about 20 minutes, not several hours.
